The Tower of London holds not only the oldest museum in London, but in Britain, and one of the first museums in the world! But it is so much more than just a museum (a prison, fortress, palace, zoo!) and has been a lot throughout its history. The Royal Armouries was opened to the public in 1660, but held its first displays in 1592. Woah, that’s a long time! Built in 1066, it has survived for over 900 years. But with so much history to explore in one building, how can you make it through with the kids without spending a millennium there yourself? Meet the Locals for Families has crafted a special scavenger hunt to guide you through this very special monument so that you can make sure to see all the highlights while keeping your whole family entertained.

Why should you visit the Tower of London while in town? This iconic castle holds an unbelievable amount of history. It has been used as a royal palace, a fortress, a prison, and even a zoo! Throughout its history, it has served as a treasury, public record office, and home to the Crown Jewels of England. Famous prisoners include Anne Boleyn, her daughter Queen Elizabeth I (who was imprisoned there but also stayed there in the days before her coronation), Sir Walter Raleigh, Guy Fawkes, and countless others. Regardless of your interests, you are sure to find something to pique them in the Tower of London.

Will we get to see the Crown Jewels?

Yep! But there might be a line to see the Crown Jewels. During the high season, this line can be very long and there are no skip-the-line tickets for anyone. You will get to see them, but if there is a long line, the tour might last a little longer than expected.

Will we have skip-the-line tickets?

These don’t quite exist in London. You will have priority access with your certified Blue Badge guide, but will still have to wait in line a bit to go through security.

For what ages is this tour suitable?

All ages! Your “Mary Poppins” guide is a skilled pro who has been perfectly trained to adapt their speech to family members of every age.

It was once a zoo- will we get to see any animals?

It isn’t a zoo in the same sense anymore, but there might just be some eternal animals waiting for you to spot them 😀

Cancellation Policy

      • Cancellations made 7 days or more prior to the date of your tour will receive a full refund. Exceptions are: for tours with tickets we charge a 20% cancellation fee; for the Eiffel Tower and Versailles tours (see below for specific cancellation charges).
      • Cancellations made between 7 days and 48 hours prior to the date of your tour will receive a 50% refund.
      • Bookings cancelled within 48 hours of the date of your tour will be charged in full.

      For Eiffel Tower activities:

      • Cancellations made 5 days or more prior to the date of your tour will receive a 60% refund.
      • Bookings cancelled within 5 days of the date of your tour will be charged in full.

      For Versailles:

      • Cancellations made 7 days or more prior to the date of your tour will be charged a 250€ cancellation fee.
      • Cancellations made between 7 days and 48 hours prior to the date of your tour will receive a 50% refund.
      • Bookings cancelled within 48 hours of the date of your tour will be charged in full.

      For Workshops and Classes:

      • Cancellations made 10 days or more prior to the date of your workshop/class will receive a 50% refund.
      • Bookings cancelled within 10 days of the workshop/class will be charged in full.

      For cruises, Tuk-tuk & Sidecar:

      • Cancellations made 10 days or more prior to the date of your tour will receive a full refund.
      • Cancellations made between 10 days and 5 days prior to the date of your tour will receive a 50% refund.
