Overview

Can you name three unmistakably British things? How about: The Tower of London, a red double-decker bus and a traditional afternoon tea? If these are on your list of “we must see and do” while in London, you are in luck because Meet the Locals combines them all in a half-day that’s packed with fun for all the family.

We know that keeping kids engaged and entertained on a city tour can be challenging. On our unique Tower of London tour we include your very own kid-friendly guide who will keep younger children entertained with a fun treasure hunt booklet to complete, while older kids will learn of ghastly tales and horrid histories; and if this is not enough excitement to fill your day, it’s followed by an English afternoon tea on a typical 1960’s Route-master London bus where you can see the iconic sights of the capital city while filling your tummy!

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves; we must start at the beginning with one of the oldest and best-known landmarks in England – the Tower of London!

Famed for housing the Crown Jewels of England, ‘Beefeaters,’ and ravens that have stood guard for over 300 years, the Tower of London is also famous for being a prison to some “celebrities” of their day such as Guy Fawkes, Anne Boleyn and her daughter, Queen Elizabeth 1st.

Our talented and knowledgeable, child-friendly guide will entertain you and the kids with fascinating and funny stories that the Yeoman Warders (aka Beefeaters) might prefer to keep secret, such as daring attempts to steal the Crown Jewels; the polar bear who once lived in the tower; and the prisoner who tried to escape through his toilet!

Marvel at the magnificent orbs, sparkling scepters, sharp swords, rings and crowns, some of which were used very recently at the Coronation of King Charles III and are said to be priceless; but can you guess how much they might be worth? It is said to be around £3 billion!

But, you must be hungry by now, so after your guide has escorted you to your next meeting point and has waved you goodbye, let’s hop on board our London bus for a 90-minute sight-seeing tour of the best that London can offer, while eating scrummy sweet treats and savories.

Hold tight, though! Which afternoon tea tour bus would you like?

If you have little ones you might enjoy the Peppa Pig Sightseeing Bus. This unique tour is the result of a collaboration between Hasbro, Entertainment One and a fabulous French Bakery – Brigit’s. Available on Thursday to Sunday at 12pm, it includes a yummy Peppa Pig-themed afternoon tea menu, tablets built-in to the tables with a Peppa Pig guided animation, an on-board entertainer leading sing-a-longs and games for all the family, and an activity book and Peppa Pig travel cup to take home. It is a tour filled with joy as it travels around the capital.

Too old for Peppa Pig? What about some marmalade sandwiches with Peru’s most famous bear aboard the Paddington Afternoon Tea Bus?  Mrs Bird and Paddington accompany you around the city from Wednesdays to Sundays afternoon, sharing Paddington’s favorite London landmarks (where he had some fun adventures and some mishaps!). Watch a Paddington-guided animation on the in-table tablets while eating a delicious Paddington Bear-inspired tea of cakes and sandwiches suitable for grown-up bears and cubs alike!

Teenagers and their parents might prefer the classic tour (available morning or afternoon) as it winds its way through the London streets on a daily basis come rain or shine. As you sip your tea you will take in London’s rich history, heritage and vibrant culture, passing such well-known attractions as Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and Trafalgar Square. See how many you can recognize!

Your delicious tea includes mouth-watering flavours with a French twist and caters for everyone, and of course, to make it a real afternoon tea, there have to be scones with jam and clotted cream – delicious!

So, what are you waiting for? Climb aboard our double-tour of London where we ensure you will learn while you have fun and we guarantee you’ll make the most of every moment in this incredible city!

And if you’re looking for a family game in another London museum, check out our Treasure Hunt in the British Museum!

FAQ

Will we get to see the Crown Jewels?

Yep! However, because they are so popular there might be a line to see them. During the high season, this line can be very long and there are no skip-the-line tickets for anyone, so we visit the Crown Jewels first. But be assured you will get to see them.

Will we have skip-the-line tickets?

These don’t really exist in London. You will have priority access with your certified Blue Badge guide, but you will still have to wait in line to go through security.

What age is this tour suitable for?

All ages! Your “Mary Poppins” guide is a qualified professional who has been fully trained to tailor their talk to family members of all ages; then, for the afternoon tea on the bus, you may choose between the Peppa Pig (only available for morning tours) Paddington (only available for afternoon tours) or Classic (available morning or afternoon). In the remarks section, please let us know your preference.

How do we get from the Tower of London to the bus departure?

Transport is not included in the package. You can choose to use public transport (a fun way to discover the Tube) or a traditional black cab (a much more traditional option and a way to see more of London).

Can we request a vegetarian or gluten-free afternoon tea?

No problem, just mention it in the remarks section when booking online. Please note that whilst gluten free flour and ingredients are used and great care is taken, the food is prepared in the same kitchen as the standard menu so for those with coeliac disease we cannot provide a 100% guarantee that the food will be gluten free.

Does the bus have on-board toilets?

Nope, so take care to go before you board!

Are babies allowed on board of the bus?

No sorry, there is a minimum age of 2 for the Peppa Pig version and 5 for Paddington and classic versions

Is there somewhere to park our buggy?

No. Space is very limited on board the bus, so there’s no room to store buggies.

Can we combine the afternoon tea on the bus with another tour?

Of course, sky’s the limit! Our team of heroes love to create tailor-made itineraries, so let us know your wishes here.
