Rome is magical all year round, but at Christmas the Eternal City truly sparkles. On our private Family Christmas Tour in Rome, your family will see the city through Roman eyes — strolling under twinkling lights, hearing the stories behind local traditions, and soaking up the festive atmosphere of piazzas filled with joy and wonder.
Your expert family guide will lead you through Rome’s most beautifully decorated streets and squares. You’ll begin at Piazza del Popolo, with its sparkling tree and glowing lights, then wander down Via del Babuino, lined with glittering shop windows. At the Spanish Steps, you’ll be dazzled by one of the city’s most enchanting holiday displays before continuing along Via Frattina and Via Tomacelli, where gourmet stores overflow with seasonal specialties. Finally, the magic culminates at Piazza Navona, where the Christmas market, carousel, and roasted chestnuts capture the joyful spirit of the season.

No Roman Christmas is complete without a nativity scene. Nativity displays, called presepi in Italian, are a cherished tradition throughout the country. Families will have a chance to admire an elaborate crib inside one of Rome’s historic churches, where tiny figurines recreate both the Nativity and everyday Italian life — a magical way to understand the meaning of Christmas together.
And because no holiday walk would be complete without a taste of the season, your family will also enjoy five festive specialties along the way. A fluffy slice of panettone, Italy’s iconic Christmas cake filled with candied fruit; a rich cup of velvety hot chocolate to warm your hands; chewy pieces of torrone, the classic almond nougat; a bite of pangiallo or panpepato, spiced Roman cakes dating back to ancient times; and the irresistible aroma of roasted chestnuts, a favorite street treat on chilly winter evenings. Each tasting adds a delicious layer to your discovery of Roman holiday traditions.
Your guide will also share the story of La Befana, the broomstick-riding old woman who visits children in early January. She fills stockings with sweets and small gifts for the good, and a bit of coal for the naughty — a tradition that still enchants families all over Italy today.
This family-friendly Christmas tour blends dazzling lights, Italian traditions, and delicious sweets. Create memories that will shine as brightly as the Christmas lights of Rome!
