Turn Your Kids into Wildlife Explorers

To help you observe the birds and wildlife, we provide professional binoculars for the whole group. We also turn the journey into a mission for the younger guests: each child is equipped with their own Instamatic camera to become a “Wildlife Reporter”. This keeps them focused on the landscape as they hunt for the perfect shot of a flamingo, a horse, or a bull. They leave the 4×4 with physical photos—tangible souvenirs of their own exploration.

Pink Waters and Salt Mountains

Explore the salt marshes where the water turns a vivid pink—a natural phenomenon caused by the Dunaliella salina algae. This is the start of the local food chain: the algae is eaten by tiny brine shrimp, which in turn are eaten by the flamingos, giving them their iconic pink color. Navigating this area also brings you face-to-face with the massive “camelles”—white salt mountains that rise against the sky.

Lunch with the Local Cowboys

Want the full experience? Join the gardians, the authentic local cowboys of the Camargue for an optional lunch at a private working ranch. Where do you pick up for the Camargue 4×4 safari?

Private pick-up and drop-off are included in Aigues-Mortes, Le Grau-du-Roi, La Grande-Motte and Palavas-les-Flots. If you are staying elsewhere in Provence, including Arles, Avignon, Uzès, Nîmes or the Alpilles, we can arrange a private transfer for a custom supplement. A personalized quote can be provided at the time of booking.

How long does the safari last?

The experience lasts approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes on site. Please note that transfer time to and from the Camargue is not included in this duration and depends on your pick-up location.

Is the Camargue 4×4 safari private?

Yes. The vehicle and your guide are entirely private for your family. The only shared moment of the day is the optional lunch at a traditional manade, if you choose to include it.

Is it suitable and safe for young children?

Absolutely. This safari is especially popular with younger children because the focus is on spotting animals in the wild. Appropriate car seats or booster seats are provided so everyone rides comfortably and securely.

What equipment is included during the Camargue safari?

Binoculars are available throughout the experience for observing birdlife across the wetlands. Each child is also provided with an instant camera to use during the safari, turning the adventure into their own photo mission. The printed photos are theirs to keep at the end of the tour. Cameras may be purchased afterward for €140 if desired.

Is lunch included in the Camargue 4×4 safari?

Lunch is not included in the base safari, but you may choose to add a traditional meal at a working manade when booking. A manade is a local ranch where Camargue bulls and horses are raised. The meal typically features regional specialties, including bull meat, with fish and vegetarian options available upon request.

What should we bring for this Camargue 4×4 safari?

Comfortable clothing, sunscreen, and a hat are recommended, especially in warmer months. All essential wildlife observation equipment is provided during the experience.
