Overview

Exploring Versailles with kids is like stepping into a real-life fairytale—except here, your royal carriage is an electric golf cart (because, let’s face it, horse-drawn carriages are so 18th century!).

This private family-friendly tour ensures a fun and interactive experience, where both kids and parents will be entertained from start to finish. Your “Mary Poppins” guide, a licensed expert who knows how to keep little (and big!) explorers engaged, will bring Versailles to life with storytelling, fun facts, and interactive activities. Each child will receive a special game booklet, turning their visit into an exciting quiz adventure!

Your journey begins in Paris, where you’ll take a comfortable 50-minute train ride to Versailles (or, if you prefer to travel like modern royalty, we can arrange a private van with a driver—sorry, no golden carriages available!).

Step into the Splendor of Versailles Palace

At the Palace of Versailles, enjoy skip-the-line entry and 90 minutes of discovery inside the Sun King’s luxurious home. Walk through the Grand Apartments, marvel at the lavish décor, and step into the King’s bedroom, where some of France’s biggest secrets were whispered.

Then, prepare to be dazzled by the most legendary room of all—the Hall of Mirrors! This breathtaking gallery, with its 357 gleaming mirrors, was designed to impress, reflect the Sun King’s grandeur, and even serve as the backdrop for royal ceremonies and treaties (including the famous Treaty of Versailles, which ended World War I). As the sunlight streams in through the grand windows, imagine the glow of thousands of candles flickering across the mirrors, creating a magical, almost endless reflection!

Through stories and fun anecdotes, your kids will quickly realize that being a king wasn’t just about wearing fancy wigs and throwing lavish parties (though there was plenty of that too!). They’ll also discover some of the strangest customs of the Royal Court—like who had the privilege of handing the King his shirt in the morning, or why nobles would fight over the honor of holding a candle during his bedtime routine!

A Royal Golf Cart Ride Through the Gardens of Versailles

Next, it’s time to hop aboard your electric royal chariot (a.k.a. a golf cart) for a scenic ride through the breathtaking gardens designed by André Le Nôtre.

Versailles’ gardens are not just beautiful—they were a symbol of absolute power! With their perfect symmetry, grand fountains, and secret groves, they were designed to impress courtiers and foreign dignitaries alike.

You have two itinerary options for your tour:

  • Morning Tour (5 hours total): After your 90-minute palace visit, enjoy a 60-minute golf cart ride through the gardens. You’ll make stops at some of the most stunning hidden groves, fountains, and mythological statues, where the Sun King hosted extravagant parties and theatrical performances.
  • Afternoon Tour (5:30 hours total): After your 90-minute palace visit, extend your golf cart ride to 90 minutes to explore not only the gardens but also Marie-Antoinette’s Estate. From your golf cart, you’ll stop to admire from the outside both the Petit Trianon, her elegant palace, and the Queen Marie Antoinette’s Hamlet, the charming countryside hamlet where she played at being a shepherdess (because why rule a kingdom when you can milk cows in a designer dress?).

As you glide past tree-lined alleys and ornamental flower beds, your guide will reveal how Louis XIV used his gardens as a stage for theatrical performances, extravagant parties, and even royal espionage.

Morning or afternoon—whenever you choose to explore, this royal adventure is designed to be unforgettable! Let us know, and we’ll handle everything—wig and crown optional!

And if you just want to do a Versailles Tour without gold cart experience, have a look at our Palace of Versailles Kids Tour.

FAQ

What is the difference between the morning and afternoon tour?

  • Morning Tour (5 hours total) – Perfect for early risers! Start your day bright and early with skip-the-line access to the Palace, followed by a 60-minute golf cart ride through the Versailles Gardens.
  • Afternoon Tour (5h30 total) – A more comprehensive experience! You’ll enjoy the same Palace visit and garden tour, but with an extended 90-minute golf cart ride that also includes stops to admire Marie-Antoinette’s Estate, the Petit Trianon, and the Hameau de la Reine from the outside. (The Estate opens at 12:30 PM, which is why this option is only available in the afternoon.)

Both tours include the Palace, the Gardens, skip-the-line entry, a kid-friendly guide, an activity booklet for each kid and plenty of fun!

What is there to see in the gardens during winter?

[bouton_read_more]

While the Versailles Gardens and Estate remain open year-round, their appearance changes with the seasons. In winter, the fountains in the gardens are turned off to prevent freezing, there are no flowers, and many statues are covered for protection. We recommend the afternoon tour in winter, as it allows you to visit when there is more daylight and includes a ride to see the Petit Trianon and Marie-Antoinette’s Hamlet from the outside. Plus, you won’t have to wake up at dawn to start your royal adventure!

Are the Musical Gardens and Fountains Shows included?

Yes! When the Musical Gardens or Fountains Shows are scheduled, your tickets include access to these special events. However, as golf carts must follow a specific route, we won’t be able to see all the fountains during the ride. To experience the best of the show, we’ll park the golf cart and explore some areas on foot, just like the courtiers once did!

  • Every Tuesday from May 7 to June 25 2025.
  • Friday March 29, Easter Monday April 1, Wednesday May 8 and Thursday May 9, Whit Monday May 20, and Thursday August 15.

Can we drive the golf cart anywhere we want?

No, golf carts must follow a designated route. But don’t worry—our guides know exactly where to go to make the most of it! They’ll navigate the best paths, share fascinating stories along the way, and ensure you don’t miss the most stunning views.

Is this tour suitable for all ages—kids and teens?

Absolutely! Our kid-friendly guides are expert storytellers who know how to adapt the experience to keep every age engaged—from curious little explorers to history-loving teens. Younger kids will love the fun stories and interactive activity booklets, while teens will enjoy fascinating insights into royal life, court intrigues, and extravagant traditions. Plus, the golf cart ride is a hit with everyone—no tired legs, just a fun and effortless way to take in the beauty of Versailles!

Can we customize the tour?

Of course! We’re a superhero team, and making your Versailles adventure perfect is what we do best!  Want a longer golf cart ride or a guided tour of the Petit Trianon? Just let us know here!

Please note that Marie Antoinette’s Hamlet isn’t open for interior visits, but we can take extra time to see the farm and its adorable animals—always a favorite with kids!

Who drives the golf cart?

The golf carts can seat 4 people, plus 1 extra child under 10 years old, but since one seat is needed for the guide, most families will need 2 golf carts. In this case, one adult from your group will have to drive the second cart, but if two adults want to drive, that’s possible too! Drivers must be over 24 years old and bring a valid driver’s license. The carts are electric and very easy to drive, and before heading out, an instructor will explain everything you need to know for a smooth and safe experience.
