Overview

The Opera Garnier is reputed to be a hidden gem in the city of Paris. Although its outside appearance is nothing short of sublime, not many people are aware that it is twice as stunning on the inside. In this Opera Garnier kids tour, you will have the opportunity to visit the glorious Opera and learn about its history while entertaining your kids at the same time!

Rumor has it that, for over 100 years, a ghost has been hiding in the basements of the Opera Garnier. He frightens everybody, and the spectators are increasingly worried. They hesitate to come to the shows. The Opera is threatened with bankruptcy. The Opera directors wanted to enlist a detective but they heard your kids were in Paris. They need their help!

Your kid-friendly guide, a 19th century arts and history specialist who enjoys solving riddles, will accompany them. Equipped with a compass and some clues, your children will explore the Opera Garnier.

The tour starts at the impressive Rotunda of the Subscribers. This was the private entrance for the Opera Subscribers. Your “Mary Poppins” guide will have plenty of mesmerizing anecdotes and stories to tell you.

Skip the line in this Opera kids tour and make the most of this wonderful monument!

It is now time to continue looking for the phantom and climb the astonishing Great Staircase proudly created by Jean Louis Charles Garnier, the Opera’s architect. With its 30 meters height and 128 balconies, not only will your kids be hypnotized by its beauty and vastness, but you will also be amazed by its splendor. Grandiose to say the least!

In the Great Foyer, a gorgeous hall with shiny gold marbles, they will gather details and clues to chase down Mr. Phantom! If they look up at the mosaic-covered vaults or scrutinize the portraits hung in the Opera House Museum, they might gather even more hints to corner the nasty ghost.

Then, your little Sherlocks – and yourself ‑ will discover the rounded, red, and gilded Audience Room, where the ceiling painted by Chagall used to cause scandal. For a change, it had nothing to do with the Phantom!

After having made the most of the Theater, return to your hunt; you are on the verge of success! The Phantom of the Opera should be trapped shortly, thanks to your kids’ perceptiveness!

FAQ

Will we see the audience room and the ballerinas’ quarters?

We will see the Audience Room from the boxes (loges), unless a rehearsal is taking place. The ballerinas’ quarters are not accessible because they are not open to the public.

Isn’t a 2-hour tour too long for my children?

This Opera kids tour is really tailor-made for children! We will do our best to amuse them during those 2 hours and have planned many activities for them to keep them engaged.

Are strollers allowed in the Opera Garnier?

Strollers are allowed inside but there is no elevator access! Beware, as you must carry them up and down the stairs. You may fold them and put them aside, but at your own risk, because there is no security to supervise them!
