Even if you aren’t in Paris on Christmas day, Paris’s holiday spirit can be enjoyed from November to January thanks to its magical decorations that last for almost two months. Thank goodness, because the Christmas illuminations take the meaning of the “City of Lights” to a whole new level.
From Boulevard Haussmann’s department stores to the edge of Champs-Elysées, your family will stroll into the core of an incandescent world, which makes Paris at night simply magical.
Your family’s evening stroll will start at Galeries Lafayette, where the biggest indoor Christmas tree in Paris stands at 50 feet tall. Wow! Your youngsters will wonder at this year’s choice of decorations. Depending on the year, it could be blue, red, or green, furnished with baubles, garlands, flowers, or simply made out of paper. Sometimes, it is hung upside down. However it is decorated this year, your kid’s first-hand experience will guarantee that they won’t forget it for many years to come.

Take time on Boulevard Haussman outside the Galeries to admire the outstanding window displays of some of the biggest brands. This has been a Parisian tradition since before WWI! Scenes of sparkling lights and entertaining automatons will be sure to amuse your little ones.
As you make your way to Place de la Madeleine, marvel all around you; the roads and side streets have been transformed into a holiday postcard, strung with lights and garlands. As you near the Madeleine Church, you’ll stumble upon a long-standing carousel. Take a look at another type of window display at Fauchon, one of the most luxurious Parisian caterers for 130 years.
Meander down Rue Royale and head toward the Tuileries Christmas Market. Before you enter, relax and enjoy a typical holiday drink- a spiced hot chocolate or mulled wine. Yummy! From here you can view the magnificent illuminations of Place de la Concorde and the beginning of the magical Champs-Elysées.
Head inside the Tuileries Christmas market to discover regional holiday specialties and attractions for the kids. There is something for family members of any and all ages! Before you call it a night, be sure to look toward the Eiffel Tower during the first 5 minutes of the hour and witness the most magnificent light show of all.

Of course! Even the smallest ones will be delighted by Christmas illuminations coming from department store installations, specially made for them.
Paris never witnesses heavy snow so there is no obstacle for walking during winter. Just be sure to dress warmly.
There is a fair amount of walking, but it is mostly flat ground. Besides, you’ll be too busy admiring the lights and decorations to notice!
Of course! This is a private tour, so we would be happy to make a quick stop. For longer excursions, we suggest that you note your favorite shops and visit them after your Christmas Illuminations Family Walking Tour.
Just advise our superhero squad in your request form about the number of people in your party, as well as their category (adult or child), so we’ll be able to tell you about the extra fee per additional person.
