Get ready for an exciting family adventure at the Colosseum, where history comes to life! This 2-hour private tour is designed especially for families, featuring a kid-friendly guide who knows how to make ancient Rome’s most famous ruins engaging and fun for visitors of all ages. Perfect for curious kids and adults, this experience combines role-playing, interactive learning, and plenty of fun, all while exploring one of the world’s greatest historical landmarks.
Before stepping into the Colosseum, get ready to experience its grand opening in 80 AD under Emperor Titus! Each family member will draw a card to discover their role in Ancient Rome: Will you be a powerful emperor, an influential senator, a vestal virgin with sacred duties, or a gladiator ready to fight? The whole family will even get to guess which gladiator will win the final duel! Each character reveals fascinating insights into Roman society, and your guide will bring each story to life as you prepare to enter the Colosseum.

Once inside, you’ll embark on a journey that reveals the social hierarchy of Roman times, through the seating arrangements of the Colosseum. While the emperor and senators had the best views, close to the action, the common people sat higher up, far from the arena floor. You’ll learn who sat where, and why—discovering how seating reflected Rome’s rigid class system. Gladiators were the stars of the show, battling on the arena floor while the crowds cheered from their assigned seats.
As you walk through the Colosseum, your guide will explain the grandeur of the games, from how the gladiators prepared for combat to the decisions made by the emperor during these intense spectacles. The experience offers a glimpse into life in Ancient Rome, full of excitement, danger, and grand events that captivated tens of thousands of spectators.
Your children will stay engaged throughout the tour with a special activity booklet filled with puzzles, games, and fun challenges that help bring the Colosseum’s history to life. From solving riddles to learning about their Roman character, young explorers will be entertained and educated, ensuring this isn’t just a tour—it’s an interactive learning adventure!
And if you would like to combo this tour with the roman forum, have a look at our Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum Family Tour!
During summer and special holidays, the Colosseum is always crowded, and the heat can be intense. Our skip-the-line tickets save you from long waits, but with young children, it’s best to visit in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat, as there’s little shade inside. Winter brings smaller crowds and cooler weather.

We provide skip-the-line tickets, but please note that on very busy days, there may still be a short wait for mandatory security checks, which unfortunately cannot be bypassed.
We recommend this Colosseum family tour for children who can read and write, as these skills are needed to fully enjoy the interactive game booklet. However, our family-friendly guide can easily adapt the experience for younger kids to ensure everyone has fun!
Absolutely! With the role-playing game, they’re sure to have fun stepping into the shoes of an emperor, gladiator, or senator. While they won’t receive an activity booklet like younger kids, their guide is a skilled storyteller who will keep them engaged and entertained throughout the entire tour.
After two hours, you may be ready to move on, but you can stay in the Colosseum longer if you wish. Just keep in mind that re-entry isn’t allowed. The good news is that your ticket also includes access to the nearby Roman Forum, valid for 24 hours. You can explore it on your own at any time.
While step-free access is available for the Colosseum, certain areas may not be fully accessible to strollers or wheelchairs due to uneven terrain and staircases.
The tour is on rain or shine, so be ready to enjoy it no matter the weather! Don’t forget your umbrella—you’ll be glad to have it (the Romans didn’t get that luxury 2,000 years ago!). Don’t worry, there are plenty of spots to take cover from the rain along the way.
