Overview

If you are coming to London, you surely know about their traditional afternoon teas. With crumpets, scones, and clotted cream, this 19th century activity is as delicious as ever! But why simply taste an afternoon tea, when you can make your own? Meet the Locals for Families presents: the Afternoon Tea Etiquette and Baking Class!

We have found a charming English historian who delights in sharing her knowledge about the art of afternoon teas with families. In her lovely home, you will learn everything about this British domestic ritual, that was originally brought to the UK in 1840. But it took another 40 years before this activity became a social event for society women and included many rules of etiquette. This class will teach you and your darlings whether or not you ought to stir the tea, pour in milk before tea or after, and loads of other dos and don’ts.

But this class is not just about etiquette. It is also a hands-on workshop! In the proper kitchen of your British instructor, your family will learn English recipes passed down from generation to generation. Discover the secrets of the perfect scone or shortbread. A delightfully airy Victorian sponge is just waiting for you to absorb (both the recipe and the sponge itself- yummy!).

After you’ve baked some deliciously British treats, it is time to enjoy the spoils! In addition to the treats your family have created, you can enjoy homemade finger sandwiches, clotted cream, jam, and of course- English tea! Don’t forget to put all your newly learned etiquette to good use. Your head chef is also a real expert, so put your questions to the test!

By the end of this tasty activity in a quaint British home, you’ll be cheeky experts on a century old English tradition! You’ll leave with perfect home recipes and lovely memories of an afternoon spent with your family.
